چکیده

Interferometric observations of asteroid (216) Kleopatra were performed in January 2000 using the Fine Guidance Sensors (FGS) aboard HST. The FGS data obtained clearly suggest that (216) Kleopatra is composed of two lobes in contact, in agreement with the radar data (Ostro et al. 2000, Science 288, 836–839), and provide more precise constraints on the absolute size of this peculiar object. c © 2001 Academic Press

Adaptive optics observations of asteroid (216) Kleopatra

The large main-belt asteroid (216) Kleopatra has been for long suspected to be a binary object, mainly due to its large lightcurve amplitude. However, recent observations suggest that it is a single “bone-shaped” or bi-lobated body (Ostro et al. 2000; Tanga et al. 2001). We present results obtained from ground-based adaptive optics observations, and in agreement with the radar raw-observations,...

Asteroid observations with the Hubble Space Telescope ? FGS ? ?

We present the results of the observations of five Main Belt asteroids and one Trojan obtained using the Fine Guidance Sensors (FGS) of the Hubble Space Telescope. For each object, estimates of the spin axis orientation, angular size and overall shape, as well as possible indications of a binary structure, are derived. This enables the computation of new physical ephemerides. While the data con...

The Distance to the Hyades Cluster Based on HST Fine Guidance Sensor Parallaxes

Trigonometric parallax observations made with the Hubble Space Telescope’s Fine Guidance Sensor #3 (HST FGS) of seven Hyades Cluster members in six fields of view have been analyzed along with their proper motions to determine the distance to the cluster. Knowledge of the Cluster’s convergent point and mean proper motion are critical to the derivation of the distance to the center of the cluste...

Microvariability survey with the Hubble Space Telescope Fine Guidance Sensors

The suitability of theHubble Space Telescope (HST) Fine Guidance Sensors (FGS) for a magnitude limited survey of microvariability among guide stars is investigated. The linearity, relative sensitivity, and dead-time constants of the three FGSs are determined, and the photon noise limitation of the FGS photometry is confirmed. The noise spectrum is found to be “white” and a procedure is describe...
